Lost Your Birth Certificate? No Worries! Here's How You Can Apply for a Replacement
Losing a birth certificate can be stressful, especially during crucial legal processes. Fortunately, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) provides an easy-to-use service for both nationals and expats to obtain a replacement certificate. This service is accessible through their website and mobile application, and in 2023, the authority introduced a digital service to streamline the process, allowing residents to apply for a new birth certificate online and issued within a day.
Requirements for Issuing a Replacement of Birth Certificate:
- Authorized Person Present: The father, mother, or a delegated representative must be present when applying for the replacement certificate.
- Original Documents: Applicants must provide original documents, including the passports of the father, mother, or concerned person.
- Residing Outside UAE: If the applicant is outside the UAE, a power of attorney for representative is required, along with copies of the original documents.
- No Relatives in UAE: If the applicant has no relatives in the UAE, consulate staff can receive the certificate on their behalf, provided an authorization letter is stamped by the embassy.
- Status Review: A review of the status of the original certificate must be conducted before issuing a new one.
Documents required
The following documents are required to submit an application:
- Birth Certificate Copy: If available, a copy of the lost birth certificate.
- Passports: Copies and originals of both parents' passports and the concerned person's passport.
- For UAE Nationals: A copy and original of the family book, and if the mother is no a citizen, her passport and valid residency permit.
Application process:
- Application Submission: Apply through MOHAP’s e-system or visit public health centers.
- Fee Payment: Fees can be paid online or at the centers.
- Document Review: The authority will review the submitted documents and originals.
- Certificate Issuance: Once approved, the certificate will be issued and can be collected from a public health center by the father or representative. An electronic copy may also be sent by email.
Fee:
- AED 65 per certificate in both Arabic and English.
