With just a few days remaining before the UAE's two-month visa amnesty scheme begins on September 1, typing centres are experiencing a surge in calls and inquiries from overstaying expats seeking to regularize their residency status.

During this grace period, illegal residents can have their fines waived and choose either to return to their home country or remain in the UAE. Overstayers will need to submit their documents to typing centres, which will then forward them to Amer centres. Once the application is approved, an outpass will be issued, granting the individual few days to exit the country. To continue staying in the UAE, they must secure a job offer and apply for a new visa, or they must leave.

Many typing centres are still awaiting complete instructions from the authorities. Currently, they are focused on raising awareness about the importance of the amnesty scheme and preparing for an increased volume of inquiries as the grace period approaches.

Residents overstaying their visas are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to legalize their status and resolve their situation promptly.
